Category 3010 - Question 33

What is Key West formed on? What is the difference between an island and a key?

The Florida Keys are made of limestone. They are remnants of ancient coral reefs (Upper Keys) and sand bars (Lower Keys).

Islands
are either formed by volcanic action, or are part of a continental plate floating on top of the Earth's mantle. Keys are sandy, low-elevation islands that form on top of coral reefs.
